The first issue of the new journal Big Data

It had to happen…a new journal called Big Data has just been launched. It looks interesting. The first issue is now available here. It contains an editorial on ‘Making sense of Big Data’ and various types of articles – including interviews, short debate pieces and a round table. On first impressions it looks like it is orientated towards computer science, but, as seems to be typical with the growing work in this area, it is interdisciplinary. I just wonder how long the label ‘big data’ will last? Perhaps it is here to stay, but I suspect that in 3 or 4 years new labels and categories will come along. The journal though looks like it could be a very important intervention. Here is a section from the aims and scope (the full version is available here):
